Abstract
The effect of changes in economic freedom on toleration for expression/information freedom is examined in an effort to explain the full effects of globalization, the source of freedom of expression, and why it has been on the decline over the course of the past decade. This relationship is explored within the context of previous research which has theorized about the relationships between economic freedom and general political freedoms/human rights. This paper argues that economic freedom is not only more important to political freedom than is commonly recognized, but that it is able to predict future variation in freedom of expression.
