dc.description.transcription3239 N. Illinois St Apt 11 Indianapolis Ind March 11, 1943 Mr. Amon G Carter Fort Worth Texas My Dear Mr Carter, I received your telegram this evening which carried the news about Amon Jr. I can not put into words my sympathy for you in this matter. But to me the word "missing" carries so much hope with it. So many of the boyd who have been reported missing have showed up later, some of them in strange ways and places. By this time I think you have received from me the radio broadcast that I heard about Major Stipp the other evening. You can imagine the mixed emotions I had for a while. Today I had a letter from Tunisia written February 25th and my husband seemed in better spirites than he had been for a while. Had another this week written Feb. 13 and he said he did not understand why any one wanted to fight over that country but he thought it might be better to wipe out a couple hundred thousand axis there than in their own back yard. He also said the Colonel (Summerall) had returned home and would be calling me but so far I have had not word from him. Perhaps he could give you some word about AMon, Jr if you would get in touch with him. Keep hoping and praying, Mr Carter. There is still so much hope that Amon, Jr. will show up with his unit one of these days. Let me hear from you again, Very Sincerely, Mrs George M Stipp
