dc.description.transcription11-15-43Dear Folks,Did you ever see this hand writing before? It belongs to your younger son, Joe. Honest I haven’t written a letter in so long I have almost forgotten how. Besides that Kaydets in Primary have lots and lots of things to do.First of allI’ll say that my first impression of this place hasn’t changed. Its just like you read about in pamphlets, books, and see in picture shows. Now for the thing that you are most interested in I guess, my flying. I love it. There is nothing in the world likeit. I may still wash out, I may never be a pilot but, it won’t be because I don’t want to. There is a lot more to flying than the desire, I am finding that to be truer more every day. Up to now I have 4 hours and 44 minutes and am doing o.k. so far as I can make out. I won’t get to solofor a couple of weeks yet but I could doit right now if my instructor would let me. I can’t do all, on hardly any of the maneuvers yet but I can take off, turn, and land and that is all that is necessary for soloing. My instructor’s name isMr. Coffey, he is an ex salesman, and he does love to talk. He is an excellent instructor and I like him very much. The first day, he made the bold statement, “I am the best instructor on the field, if I weren’t, I would copy from the best.” I scoffed at him at the time he said it but now I believe he was telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Where other instructors rave, stomp, and swear, he talks over the inter-phone system while we are flying like a man would talk to a fine, bird dog on a contest day.The weather here has been pretty good but evidentlythe higher ups are expecting some bad because they made us fly last Sunday. We didn’t have classes though, so half a day off was a good rest. I don’t [know] whether I have ever mentioned it or not but classes are being continued here. They are teaching us things that really pertain to airplanes such as Theory of Flight, aircraft engine and aircraft construction.__________________ Taps so I’ll quit.Love, Joe
