dc.description.transcription | 10-8-44Dear Folks,I am now enjoying my last few duty freehours that I will have in a long time probably. It is 1015 now and I go to the flight line at 1300 and fly until 2200. This will be my first time in the wild blue since about a week before I left Harlingen. I know that I am going to enjoy such a long stretch of it. I have a new first pilot. I haven’t met him yet but heis a Capt. that has been instructing on a B24 for 15 months. He has the experience and the “know how,” so he might be a pretty good boy to have around.Day before yesterday was quite a day. We processed. And processing in the army is or can be quite an ordeal. I signed about a million papers, turned in all my old equipment, got issued new equipment, got four shots, two in each arm, was given a complete “64” physical and some other things thatare too numerous to mention. It took about 6 hours and I was so tired as if I had plowed all day.I got Mama’s letter yesterday dated Sept. 2ndand the one today dated Aug. 28th. Just a little mixed up, no? I am still more or less in the dark about W.Y. but maybe the next letter will clear him up.I surely am glad that you all saw “The White Cliffs of Dover.” I got a big bang out of it when Frank Morgan, or the girls father, sounded off about the Brittish. He had about the same love for the English that Papadoes. There are two others that I want you to be sure and see if you haven’t already seen them. They are, “The Song of Bernadette” with Jennifer Jones, and “Going My Way” with Bing Crosby. Now that I think about it, it seems that you have already seen “Going my Way.” If you have, don’t bother to see it again.I am going to quit now and dash off a line to Bill Marshall. I never have written him and I’ve owed him a letter for over a month.Love,Joe | |
