S ‘ MESSDAVIS-MONTHAN FIELD TUCSON, ARIZONA11-2-44Dear Folks,Dear Folks,I hope you don’t mind the pencil because I am still mad at my fountain pen. It will write but it is too much trouble. This is another one of those days for me. I only have or had, one class today. It was some practical application of emergency procedures in a B 24. What to do in case of electric failure, what to do in case of (hydraulic?) failure, what to do in case of radio failure, how to bail out, how to ditch, land in water, and all such stuff as that. The class only lasted an hour and now I have the whole day off. Incidentally after this class we did have a little excitement. Yesterday we got a lengthy lecture on how to make a parachute jump. Today the lecturer gave a practical demonstration. It looked so easy I want to try it.I’m glad someone in the family is buying a new car because I’m not. Or that is, I haven’t as yet. By the time we got paid and went to buy the car we had picked out,it was already sold. Another one that suits our fancy may turn up in a few days. Say Papa, do you want to sell Willie?Today I am going to do something that I have been promising myself I would do for two weeks. I am going to catch up on about a dozen letters that I owe. Grandma, Bob & Bobby have first priority today after this one.Have you gotten the record from the Pepsi Cola company yet? If you have, don’t rush down town to buy a second player just to play it. I wasn’t prepared and there were about 25 officers and most of them with their dates standing around giggling, listening, and making helpful? suggestions on to what to say. I’ll make a good record some day.I started to quit while I still had a little space left on the other sheet but I’ve got to tell you something. The section that just slipped out of here, left without benefit of any leaves. They forget them when they get to Topeka but I don’t know. Anyhow don’t count too too strongly on my place being filled by me Xmas day. There is no way of knowing so don’t make any definite plans or get your hopes high, one way or the other.I’ve got to eat dinner now and then write some more letters so I’ll quit for now.Love,Joe
