dc.description.transcription8-14-45Dear Folks,I’ve just heard the good news. It’s almost too good to be true even if it has been suspected for over a week now. I’m out on the base not doing any celebrating but am waiting for my call home to get through. This time I’m going to waitif it takes all nights. Seems funny to me, but I don’t feel like celebrating. On V.E. day I wanted to and did, let off steam in the worst way, now I feel like I want to go to church. I just can’t quite seem to comprehend that it is all over and nobody is getting shot at or bombed. This will probably expedite matters as far as my discharge is concerned and it may not be necessary for me to spend 5 or 6 months on some post just waiting. Let’s hope not anyway.I just finished processing today but not in time to sign up for farm work for tomorrow like I had planned. I will sign up tomorrow like I had planned. I will sign up tomorrow for the next day however. There is lots of farm work that needs to be done around these parts and there are lots of soldiers doingnothing. So the local farmers are hiring all that will volunteer and are paying 60 cents an hour. Not bad, but what I need more than anything is the exercise. I haven’t done a lick f work since the day I hit the States on the 29thof June and am getting kind of stiff in the joints. Might be a good idea for me to learn how to work anyway. My call ought to be through any minute now so if you don’t mind I’ll stop writing and will read a book until it comes through.Love to all,JoeP.S. I finished the book
