dc.description.transcription5-16-43Dear Folks,How do you like this impromptu stationery? I am kin to my mother alright. When I was getting ready to come to the hospitalI took all of my stationery out of my box and brought only envelopes. I thought I left not one package and sure enough I didn’t. No, I didn’t feel too badly yesterday to write, I was just too lazy. Or maybe you weren’t even worried in the first place. I hope not any way. My fears were confirmed. I’m swollen up on both sides now. Do you remember how Lynwood looked when he had them? Well! The Dr. says that I am very lucky having it on both sides at the same time. So that I won’t even half to worry about themumps again. I just laughs and sez, “Where have I heard that song before?”I feel fine and haven’t had over a half degree of temp since I have been here so I am enjoying myself. I have my books here so if I want to stay up with the class all I have to do is read all day long. If I read for 12 hours I can cover about what we cover in one hour of class. I think I have already told you this once but here goes in case I haven’t.One of my room mates wrote home and told his mother the joke about the boy that dropped his pencil and when he stooped over to pick it up he missed two weeks of algebra. She wrote back and said that she felt so sorry for that boy that dropped his pencil. Well that stuff is ceasing to be a joke. The other day it became necessary for us to understand a certain amount of Trig. and a certain amount of Chemistry before we could advance any more in Physics. So at the end of two hours we had covered four weeks of Trig. and two weeks of Chem. Then we were able to go on with the Physics lesson. We had to make up for that two hour delay so we just sped up a little bit faster. I think they are going to add that two hours to the course next time if they can get it approved by the Senate.About two or three letters back you said you were getting readyto send me a tube of toothpaste. If you do I’ll send it back so help me. I, and I alone, am in a position to know when I run out of toothpaste. 1. I’ve raved enough. 2. It’s time for dinner 3. Out of paper so I’ll quit until tomorrow or the next day. Love, Joe
