February 14,1944: Dear Dad, This time one year ago, the battle at Faid Pass started, and next Tuesday I will have been a prisoner for on e year. It sure makes me mad to think that after walking about 60 km across the desert and two mountain ranges and get within sight of our own artillery fire, that I am caught by a bunch of Arabs. I have learned a lot in the past year and don't think it has been wasted; although I don't want another ear of it. What makes it so hard is to hear about Mexica and Colorado Springs. It has been snowing for the last 3 days and everything is very pretty. One good thing is that we are in a very nice building and it very warm ,just like the place were Bill Lays guests stay. All of us are in fine spirits, although there really isn't much to do. Once a week, I am allowed to go on a walk out in the country with 50 other officers. It gives us a chance to get in some exercise. Oh yes, Colonel Waters and Algers are both here. In my May parcel, please send me 3 pair of summer shorts. Size 33 / 34. Also if possible, include some Scottish tissue like hotels have, but don't take up too much room with it. Can certainly use some, also *** **** . And matches if possible. Also wish you would enclose in some letters, individual comic strips, like Dick Tracy, Little Abner, and Squeezed we haven't been able to keep up with them. I am fine and am sure I will be a lot better when summer arrives. All of us have money bet of a certain event, and also I have been doing fine in my card games, especially bridge, Give my love to everyone. had swell letter form Bertice. All my love, Amon Jr
