March 1, 1944: Hello Darling, One year ago today I was flown in a German airplane to Sicily. Then I spent two weeks in Capua, Italy and arrived in Germany of March 16th, so it won't be long until I have been here one year. It hasn't been a very enjoyable year but I am sure I won' have to spend another one like it. My November parcel arrived last week and it was certainly a nice one, especially the food. Thanks a lot for the cap darling, it is just what I need for my greens. We are all eagerly waiting for spring to arrive since the winter has been so miserable. It hasn't been a bad one, but it is awfully damp and muddy. The last letter I received of yours was written Oct 31 and I have already had letters from home mailed in Dec. and even some in January. I can't imagine what is the matter unless they are being returned to you. There are a lot of rumors around camp about us being exchanged for German Prisoners, but I think it is hopeless. Anyways, there are a lot of wounded prisoners who need to get home more than we do. All we can do is hope for it to end soon, there are a lot of things I would like to tell you but they will have to wait until I get home. You wouldn't believe some of the things happened to different officers here. We have 41 form Texas now. All my love sweetheart and even if I can't often, You know I am thinking of you ALL the time. Amon
