June 12, 1944 Dear Dad, On June 6th we celebrated our first anniversary in Oflag 64. It was a great day in more ways than one, and I think that by next June 6th I will be on my way home. Lots of people seem to think it will all be over soon, but I can't agree with them. A Captain, who was captured in Italy in January, and who just arrived here, was in the same hospital in Italy with Capt. Steffen. He had just lost a leg and was in a weak condition but was rapidly improving. The Germans in that hospital said they were sure he would be repaired. That explains why he has not arrived at this camp. Put. Franklin, who works in the hospital here, has been having trouble with his mail. So far he has only received 14letters. His wife Mrs. Earl Franklin lives at 2402 NW 27th Phone Number 15 6-1755. He would appreciate it if you would tell her about the camp and to use 30 cent airmail in answering. Maybe Katrine could address some envelopes for her. One of my friends also met a Lt. Robert McCain of Dallas. He is now in Stalag Luft III I think. His folks live at the Sanger Hotel. Oh yes, I sent home the power of attorney papers quite a while ago thru the Swiss Legation. Be sure to let me know when you receive this letter. Give Ruth, Mother, Bertice, Katrine and Carl my live. Thank Mr. Keith for sending Jean the fruit. Please keep sending pictures (0ver) may Richardt can send me some good action photos, firs, wrecks, murders, train wrecks, and so forth. Lots of officers receive 5x7 + 8x10 pictures. I think 5 x7 is best the one you have been sending are swell. Love, Amon Jr.
