Mr. A.G. Carter Fort Worth Texas: Dear Mr. Carter: Wish to thank you for your kind letter of April 17 regarding my son Carl R. Woodward of the A.S. Field Artilery ,now a prisoner of war on the Island of Java. Carl Ray was a member of the "Last Batillion" The Batillion all reported missing in action over a year ago,, I as notified in January he was a prisoner and after all those months of worry and anxiety, one welcome most any news. I have always felt Cral would come home,he was a Christian boy, of which was a great comfort to me. We had sixty five officers and men from witchita Falls in Java at the time of the capitualtion, whom we have never heard from in any way, still carried by the War Dept. as missing I pray God has blessed them. You were indeed for fotunate in hearing so soon your dear boy is alive, we can only trust God for their safe return, and keep faith and courage. WE have all been brave, Carl was permitted to make a record in hthe prison camp and it was taken to Tokyo of broadcast. I received fifty five letters from the good people over S and Canada even boys in the navy, who picked up the boradcast, I was overjoyed as I had prayed day and night of some word from him. I also received three recordings of the message and he spoke so plain and strong. He called the names of several boys who were with him from Wichita. It was such a sweet message, asking us not to worry and that God would bless us. I really thank you from the bottom of my heart for you nice letter and the infomation the Japandese were observing th international code in handling out boys. After wat happened to our avaitors, makes us wonder just what they will do next, it was so heart warming. We of Wichita Falls wish to thank the Fort Worth Star elegram for their kidness in remembering our boys of the Lost Battlion they have been more than kinds, and we appreciate it. I shall keep your letter as I am making Carl a very nice scrap book trusting some day he may be able to thank you in person, Do pra it won't be too long before we can be united with our dear boys, I am really too nerobous to attemp writing. Most sincerely, Mrs. R.G. Jacobs.
