dc.description.transcription3-17-1945 2116 Washington Amarillo, Texas Amon G. Carter, Ft. Worth, Texas Dear Friend: - your letter is very deeply appreciated and is our first news from son, 1st Lt. John R. Yows, since six weeks ago. He was captured on Labor Day Sept. 4 '44; our first letter from him was on Jan. 2 - 1945; since that time we had heard two or three times weekly up to six weeks ago, when the letters suddenly stopped. He has been located in Stalag VII A. it not being an officers camp, tho' has an officers wing attached; being located near Munich according to the Feb. issue of Red Cross Bulletin the map of Prison Camps therein shows the camp you mention to be to the far north of where he was. That he is located now, we should be hearing before too long, and shall surely be glad to pass to you any information we may receive; since your son's letters are now coming, in case he mentions son again it would be good to hear, as it take a while for mail to get started from Germany. The Feb. Bulletin of Red Cross also has pictures from Oflag 64 Prison Camp, as you may already have seen. Our family consists of a son, in Business in Borger, Texas; a daughter in Texas Tech at Lubbock, Texas, and myself, at home in Amarillo, (Lt. John's mother). We are really grateful to you; it was thotful & kind & it has eased the tension of not having heard from him recently. Sincerely, Mrs. Ethel P. Yows
