dc.description.transcription1 Fort Sam Houston, Tex September 22, 1935 Dear Grandma & Grandpa: I got your letter yesterday and I certainly was glad to hear form you. I wish your letter could have been longer though. I got a letter from Florence about a week ago and she said a horse kicked Uncle Charlie about a week ago and he was in a pretty bad shape and she said she had a bad cold. Did Grandpa make as much as a 100 bushels 2 of corn? I hope he made that much. Its about time to pick cotton now. How much does he think he'll make? We're still have tomatoes here but I know there isn't many there now. I got a letter from Aunt Lucia a good while ago and I must answer it soon. I guess she said something about it. I sure hated to hear about Huey getting bumped off. I was hoping Huey would get somewhere. He was a go-getter. I've got some of the pictures back. I 3 sent some to Virginia and some to Florence and Bee, but I saved the best for you. Of course they're not pretty but they show what I look like. They were taken in Bullis. We had two Division reviews last week. one in honor of the Spanish-American War. Veterans who had their annual meeting here this year and the other for the sub-committee on Military Appropriations. A bunch of big shots from Washington D.C. Before 4 reviews we have to work cleaning mules, shellacking harnesses polishing brass cleaning carts etc. besides that we have to polish our own equip. such as shoes, belts, holsters, ornaments etc. Reviews are lots of work for soldiers but they look good to the big shots. There were about 5000 soldiers and hundreds of trucks, horses, mules, carts, cannons etc. It's a pretty sight to see several thousand soldiers stepping by, keeping step with the music. Tell Ray and Pearl hello and tell them to write again. I hope you are feeling fine I am Love Smith S.L. Green Hdqrs. Co. 23rd Inf. Fort Sam Houston, Tex Mr. W.M. Green Box 426 Broken Bow, Okla.
