I wasn't in Ft Sam in Jan 1935 must be 1936 Fort Sam Houston January 1, 1935 Dear Grandma and Grandpa: A happy new year to you. There certainly was a big celebration downtown last night. The new year was ushered in in great style. Every body had two or three bottles of whiskey. I got home all right. I arrived about 4:00 p.m. Sunday. The Bus John and I was on wrecked about 5 miles from Hugo. No one was hurt very bad. The bus and Chevrolet car were wrecked. I can't send but $5 this onth because I drew half of my pay to come home on. I am feeling fine and hope you are the same. I highwayed from Hugo. I made good time though. About as fast as bus time. Well I can't think of anything else. Goodbye. Smith S.L. Green Hdqrs. Co. 23rd Inf. Ft. Sam Houston, Texas Mr. W.M. Green Box 426 Broken Bow, Okla.
