Fort Sam Houston, Texas February 12, 1936 1 Dear Grandma, Grandpa & Uncle Cad: I'm on K.P to-day but got out of the kitchen at about 1:00 and won't have to go back until 4:00. I've just written Florence a letter so I thought that while I was at it I might as well write you one. I have a bad cold and a cough but so has nearly every one else. The Hospital is jammed full with an epidemic of mumps influenza etc. We had a cold spell last week and up until now but it's getting warm 2 now. I hope it stays that way. We've been pretty busy the past few days. WE've been giving war strenght Battalion Demonstrations for the graduating class of Flying Cadets at Kelly Field. They fly over us and take pictures and listen to talks about our organization while we demonstrate. Admiral Byrd was in San Antonio last Saturday and I went down to see him. He talked about two hours while showing 9000 ft of moving pictures. that was taken at the south pole. It 3 was very interesting. I've had a $10 allotment made out to Grandpa. It will save me some trouble and it won't be lost. He will get it about the same time I get paid. I got a letter from John a while back. He is getting along fine. He says its pretty cold up there and plenty of snow. How is Lurline and Irvin getting along now? Tell them to write. Have you seen Ray and Pearl since they moved? 4 We have been getting a good many new men in the company now. I heard that we would get fifty new men before long. That will be quite a bunch. I'm still getting along all right at the Radio School. I hope to get my Diploma by this time next month. Well I can't think of anything else to write about so I'll close. Write soon. Lots of Love Smith S.L. Green Hdqrs. Co. 23rd Inf. Ft. Sam Houston, Texas Mr. W.M. Green Box 426 Broken Bow, Oklahoma
