Description
In 1932, Amon Carter helped lead the campaign to have Garner nominated as the Democratic candidate for the presidency. Garner did not win the nomination but was chosen to run as Franklin Roosevelt?s vice president. He considered Roosevelt?s victory assured, and, therefore, refused to campaign. He was finally convinced in October of 1932 to give his only radio address in the 1932 presidential campaign. This transcript was used by Garner for the radio speech on October 14, 1932 with the handwritten note at the top: ?For Amon Carter from his good friend Jno. M. Garner?
