Abstract
This dissertation reconstructs the history of Mexicanos in Fort Worth from the 1880s to the 1980s. Census information and city directories help piece together the early history (1883-1920s), revealing much about who the early Mexicanos were, where they lived, and what they did for a living. After the 1920s information came from extensive interviews of area families. With an emphasis on social and cultural aspects, oral histories shed light on where Fort Worth's Mexicanos came from, their arrival in Cowtown, their occupations, the trials and obstacles they faced, and their response to the social, political, and economic challenges of life.
