Wednesday nite Dear Mrs. Deakins: Your call was a wonderful surprise. I was all choked up - had to cut it all short before I started to really sob. What a relief it is to you! I had intented writing you to tell you about my friend who received the missing in action information about her husband on the same day you did about Amon. And then last week, her 2nd wire came through ending all hope. Knowing you hadn't received that, I was certain Amon was all right. And he is! Perhaps you didn't know I had written on the back of my last letter to you that Asbury has returned to Sidney with no news of Amon for which Sidney was thankful. That was very encouraging to me. Sid said Asbury did get a good case of fleas, tho. Your copies of the letters from the boys over there were gand - I appreciate your thoughtfulness in keeping me informed, for I realize how very busy you always are. After talking to you today, I just had to call Mr. Carter to tell him how happy I am with him. You both are so good and sweet - so considerate of others that you deserve only the best - and I mean that sincerely. Perhaps when Mr. Carter returns from his trip East, then you and Mr. Deakins can get away for the rest I'm sure you must need. (?) come to San Antonio. Col. Summer all wrote that he'd seen Sidney last on Feb. 23rd and he was all right. I had wanted to know of his wounds, but guess I shouldn't have expected any real information. We all just must have faith that all will be well and God will watch our boys for us. Had wanted to come up to be with you and Mr. Carter during these trying weeks you've had, but because of my own nervous strain, I realized it was not the time to go "a-visitin." I feel much relieved just about Amon today has helped so much. Our latest news is before the latter began March 12th. Thank you for keeping me posted - Mother and Daddy join me in wishing for later and better news of Amon. Sincerely, Jane
