N INSTITUTION UNITED STATES NATIONAL MUSEUM WASHINGTON 25, D. C.  JUN 19 1958 Mrs. H. R. Wilson ??? 464 Forestburg, Texas Dear Mrs. Wilson: The specimen sent with your letter of recent date cane from a stony meteorite. A surface was polished and from the preliminary examination identified as a black chondrite with about the sane size chondrules and with an equal quantity of metallic inclusions as the McKinney and Travis County stones which are also from this section of Texas, from the section of the map you enclosed the coordinates of the point of discovery for your specimen were found to be about 33° 25 N. and 979 45% W., and this position is contrasted with the coordinates of the other stony meteorites from nearby in the following table: Your specimen 33° 25’ 97° 43’ Travis County 30° 3’ 97° 7’ McKinney 33° 11’ 96° 43’ Varuna 30° 58’ 98° 19’ Allen 33° 16’ 97° 54’ La Villa 26° 16’ 97° This Museum does not have samples of the last three specimens in this table, hence, we cannot compare you specimen with these meteorites. According to our records these stones are in Mr. Monnig's collection, whose circular about meteorites was enclosed in your letter. I am of the opinion that the specimen submitted is not a new meteorite but a discovery of another specimen from one of the known falls and if this is the case, we are less interested in making an offer than if it was different from the other meteorites. If you will advise me about the weight of this specimen and what you are asking for it we will be glad to consider your offer. However, possibly Mr. Monnig, 1010 Morningside Drive, Fort Worth, is interested and if you have not shown this to him I suggest you do. I will be looking forward to a reply. Yours truly, E. P. Henderson Associate Curator Division of Mineralogy and Petrology cc: Mr. Monnig EPH:br
