Abstract
BODIPY dyes are a class of fluorescent probes that have applications in biological labeling, chemical sensing, diagnostics, and various other fields. Here, we present a unique case of distinct spectra observed in the monomeric and aggregated forms of BODIPY in an organic solvent, namely 1,1-dichloroethane. Additionally, we show that low additive amounts 1,1-dichloroethane into other organic solvents induce a shift in the monomer-aggregate equilibrium of common BODIPY dyes. Characterization and modulation of fluorophore assemblies via additive-induced disaggregation has potential use for modifying fluorophore properties, which should have an effect on a wide range of applications.
