My dear Mr. Carter, I am now well on my way back to Washington, but do not want to delay any longer in expressing to you my appreciation for the many courtesies extended to me while your guest at Fort Worth. I am very proud of my new hat and will take great pleasure in wearing it and remembering my most enjoyable visit with you. I hope that the Fort Worth project will proceed rapidly to the satisfaction of all conferred and that I will have the opportunity of seeing you in Washington on your next trip to that city. Thank you again for a most enjoyable time and for the assistance you gave us to complete new work at the site. Sincerely, Walter J. Reed
