Jan. 12, 1939 Dear Mr.Carter. I am writing just a line to let you know how much I enjoyed making the trip to Washington and Philadelphia with you and to sincerely thank you for the many courtesies you were so kind in extending to me, while we were there. You were more than gracious to me and I shall never forget it and but hope that some day I might in some small way repay your kindness. David has spoken many times of you and of your many favors to him and I can easily understand his admiration of you. I appreciate moreover the nice things you have said about David - for tho he has only been nationally recognized as All-American this year, he has been All-American both as a player and a brother to me for many, many years. I know that David shall never give you cause to regret your confidence in him, for, as you have said in your talks about him, he is quite as much an All-American off the field as he is on it. Again thanking you for a grand time that I will never forget. Sincerely yours, Boyd Keith O'Brien
