Aug. 5th 1944 Dear Mr. Carter: - The war situation looks so very good now, and I am so thankful. A report on the radio this morning said, a Brusssels radio broadcast that Germany had capitulated to the Allies, but two hors later, it was denied. I received 2 cards and a letter dated July, 18th, 23rd and 31st. Everything about the same - he did mention food could be better. Also he has had a spell of Malaria, and was still taking quinine. When Germany does capitulate, my worry then will be; how long it will be before our prisoners are sent hom. If you think it will be a matter of months, I am thinking seriously of closing my house and coming to Ft. Worth and staying with my aunt Mrs. Sansom. Also, I would like to do radio work_ Singing is my speciality_ Classicla music, also ballads and the better popular songs, however I play the piano too and have talked on the radio quite a bit for Red Cross and did a bit of announcing. What do you think the chances would be of getting into radio work there at WBAP. I did radio work (N.B.C.) for several years in New York. I am sure you have read the letters I sent to you from Col. Barron. If so, may I have them back as soon as possible, for I re-read them all quite a bit. Thanking you kindly I am sincerely Mrs Gaines J. Barron.
