Mar. 11, 1943. Dear Mr. Carter, Today a friend of mine, Lt Leslie picked up a magazine and found that in it he was listed as "missing in action." He was as a matter of fact shot down off of Guadalcanal, and was "missing" for forty-three days. That is why- when I heard the news of your son in Africa I felt sure that it was a time to start hoping rather than stop. I have thought often of my stay in Fort Worth, and the part you played to make it the most friendly and hospitable city I was ever in. Sincerely, Cecil A. Alexander, Jr. 2nd Lt. USMCR.
