March 12, 1943. Dear Col. Carter, My eye caught the item in this morning's paper telling that your son was missing in action. Although it cannot do any good, I cannot help writing to you. I have three sons in the service myself and that makes anything hat touches the fate of men in the armed forces come very close to me. So I do want you to know that I am thinking of you in respect and in deepest sympathy. Your friend, Nathan Strauss
