Monday Amon Dearest: With all my heart I pray that your child is safe- "Missing" is such an ominous word. But it does at least still give one a thread to hold to. I have been so troubled, just with Father's death, then 3 days later John's mother died and when I got home and found a letter from Mother telling me that Amon Jr was missing it just finished things. Death is something we all know is coming sooner or later, but to have our boys lost from us in this awful, unnecessary war is too cruel. I can't say anything that will in any way comfort you, but you may be sure my prayers are for your child's safety. Always affectionately Hester.(?)
