March 21, 1943 Dear Mrs. Deakens, Thank you so very much for calling me here at Miami Beach and giving me Mr. Carter's message that my husband, Mac Brown, was well and safe in London. This is such a belated note that I am dreagfully ashamed. However, I was so thrilled with your call that I am willing to confess my bad manners so that I can say thank you even at this late date. Mr. Carter's very good friends, Col. and Mrs. Naylor, told me they had word that mon, Jr. was missing in action. Do convey my regrets to Mr. Carter. I sincerely hope you receibe some encouraging word of him before much longer. Very gratefully yours, Mabelle Brown
