Navy Yard Phil. March 28th 1943 Dear Mr. Carter I just learned from some friends of mine that Amon Jr. has been reported missing in Action in Africa. Knowing how terribly fond of him you are I can never hope to say anything to make you feel better about that news at the moment but I do want you to know how awfully sorry I am to hear of this. I know it sounds pretty fatuous right now to say this but it is a fact that 2 out of every three men reported "missing" turns up. Let us all hope that in Amon Jr. case the average is for As ever, sincerely Jimmie Stewart
