North Africa April 14, 1943 Dear Mr. Carter, I've wanted to write this letter for several months now but couldn't bring myself to it without mentioning Amon Jr. Regulations forbid our mentioning anything concerning persons missing in action therefore I've been waiting until i knew you had received official notification. All of us are very sorry indeed that mon didn't come out of the (illegible)with us because he was a bell of a fine officer and certainlt displayed surperior courage and spirit when the going became tough. Amon was a very important part of the 91st F.A. and the men had nothing but good words and a high degree of respect for him. Please don't misinterpret the above paragraph for all of us firmly believe Amon is now a prisoner of war. Pirnie, who is very familiar with the circumstances, has probably foiced the same opinion and I have other reasons to believe it is true. Perhaps by the time this letter reaches you you will have received word that he is a prisoner of war. It is my opinion that you will hear from Amon and that he will be able to give you some interesting information. I'm sure that even though he is a prisoner of war he will be able to do his duty for the U.S.A. and be he will, I'm sure, make his tour as a P.W. very interesting. Our Battalion has changed considerably during the past several months. Perhaps Col. Summerall has given you many of the details at any rate all of us with we could start over again with the original gang. Mr. Carter, I'd like to thank you again and very profoundly for the kindness and generosity you showed us while we were in England and Ireland. We speak of you often and I'm sure that if you were to drop in on us you would be greeted as a fond member of the 91st. Amon Jr. is a fine officer and one to be proud of and I'm sure he is & will continue to be okay- kindest personal regards, Geo. C. Ro(illegible)
