F 33 336 1/160=BJ FTWORTH TEX FEB 27 443P AMON G CARTER=ROOM 1434 RITZ CARLETON HOTEL= WIRED MAJOR GEN. KAUCH THE FOLLOWING WIRE QUOTE ON JANUARY 26, 1946. THE CITY OF FORT WORTH MADE APPLICATION TO THE COMMANDING OFFICER FOR TEMPORARY USE OF FORT WORTH ARMY AIR FIELD AS A LANDING FIELD FOR TWELVE AIRLINE SCHEDULES DAILY. THIS WAS OCCASIONED BY THE FACT THAT FOUR ENGINE PASSENGER EQUIPMENT TO BE PLACED IN USE BY AIRLINES IMMEDIATELY WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO LAND ON OUR LOCAL MUNICIPAL FIELD. OUR PRESENT MUNICIPAL AIRPORT HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO ITS ECONOMIC LIMITS AND DOES NOT HAVE RUNWAY LENGTHS SUFFICIENT TO TAKE CARE OF FULLY LOADED FOUR ENGINE AIRCRAFT. WE ARE AT THE PRESENT TIME IN PROCESS OF ACQUIRING 2400 ACRES OF LAND WHICH WILL BE THE SITE OF A NEW MODERN AIR TERMINAL. CONSTRUCTION WILL START IMMEDIATELY AFTER LAND HAS BEEN FINALLY ACQUIRED. RECENT CONFERENCES WITH THE AIRLINES INVOLVED CAUSES US TO REACH THE CONCLUSION THAT WE CAN AMEND OUR APPLICATION TO THE COMMANDING OFFICER. FORT WORTH ARMY AIR FIELD= =END 1. 26 1946 2400. BF33 2/176= TO PROVIDE FOR FOUR DAILY AIRLINE SCHEDULES INSTEAD OF TWELVE AS PREVIOUSLY REQUESTED. FORT WORTH, THE AIR CENTER OF THE SOUTHWEST, HAS COOPERATED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF MILITARY AS WELL AS CIVIL AVIATION. FORT WORTH IS PROUD TO LEARN, IN CONFIDENCE, THAT FORT WORTH ARMY AIR FIELD HAS BEEN MADE A PART OF THE PERMANENT DEFENSE INSTALLATION OF THE NATION. WE WILL WELCOME THE PARTICIPATION BY LOCAL AIR CORPS PERSONNEL IN COMMUNITY AFFAIRS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND CLUBS. WE ARE VERY HAPPY TO INCLUDE EVERY MEMBER OF THE PERSONNEL OF THE FORT WORTH ARMY AIR FIELD IN OUR SOCIAL AS WELL AS OUR ECONOMIC COMMUNITY. aNY ACCOMMODATION WHICH YOU MAY GRANT US AT FORT WORTH ARMY AIR FIELD WILL BE TEMPORARY. YOUR CONSIDERATION OF OUR AMENDED APPLICATION BASED ON FOUR DAILY SCHEDULES WILL BE APPRECIATED. WE FEEL THAT IT WILL BE A VERY GREAT FAVOR IF YOU CAN HELP OUR CIVIC BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TO THIS EXTENT UNQUOTE. HOPE THIS WIRE TO THE GENERAL WILL ASSIST IN REOPENING OUR APPLICATION. KINDEST REGARDS= S H BOTHWELL CITY MANAGER 643P
