dc.description.transcription5-18-43Dear Folks,As the corporal stuffs a thermometer in my mouth I shall begin this letter. The purpose of which is to tell you that I am still feeling fine. I haven’t looked at the thermometer yet but if I am as hot on the inside as the weather is onthe outside, baby, I’m as good as cooked. The heat as well as the inactivity have put a very great desire in me to get out of here. However I might as well get that idea out of my head because I am still swollen up like a toad frog. (My temp is 99.2, the highest it has been since I’ve been here.) The fellow next to me has already been in a month longer that I have. My room mate got out in 11 days so perhaps I’ll be that lucky but don’t hold your breath. These mumps are dangerous besides and they don’t takemany chances. They do make us get up and sweep, mop and dust every morning. I have always been told that a mumps patient should stay flat on his back but perhaps they know what they are doing. However I doubt it. No one else knows what they are doing in the army, why should the Medical Corps? When I get tired reading Physics and Algebra I ready Ellery Queen mystery stories. I’m getting where I can find “Who Done It?” before the author can decide who to let do it. Have you heard any more from Jack Cameron or seen a notice in the paper announcing that the E.R.C.’s are being called from T.C.U. or N.T.A.C. You sent me one list from T.C.U. telling those that were going to be called. It is my understanding the boys from T.C.U. and N.T A.C. are both being delayed. That delay should be about it. If you see Jack be sure and tell him to write me when he gets where he’s going. The bull session over in the corner is getting pretty good so I’ll quit this and join it.
