dc.description.transcription10-28-43Dear Folks,One more Physics Test, one more Maps & Charts test, and one more week of being on the ball in general and it will all be over but the shouting. My destination is known at last, Clarksdale, Mississippi will be my home for the next 9 weeks.Out squadron is split up into two different shipping lists. One half are going to Helena, Arkansas, and the other half to Clarksdale. The 4H club is split right half in two. Carl and Robert Hanson to Helena and Harvey and I to Clarksdale. We hate tobe split but it is going to happen to us periodically for the rest of our training days so we might as well get used to it. However, Helena and Clarksdale are only about 20 miles apart so we have already planned to get together at our first opportunity. I, for one, am going to cross that river on every opportunity. In my opinion the Mississippi and not the Mason Dixon line is the great divide in this great land of ours. The west side is the side I call home. I will fly P.T. 23’s, six models newer than Jerome’s P.T. 17. Here is what the two ships look like.[three drawings of P.T. 17 here][three drawings of P.T. 23 here]My ship is six models newer than his and just the kind I hoped I would get. That is all for my future except that all of this is subject to immediate change. If they have too many ment in my Primary a few will be knocked off the shipping list and put in the reserve squadron for a month. Such might be my luck but probably not.Mrs. Hays, you put Lowell in the doghouse for no good reason atall. White gloves are worn at times other than when walking punishment town. Such was undoubtedly the case because if he were being punished he wouldn’t have time to pose for a picture.Papa, I never did get a report on the ice box. In fact, I haven’t hada report from you of any kind since that Sunday when you and Mama took turns about writing me at the office. If you don’t have time to write tell Mr. McDaniel to get off his lazy fanny and hire someone to take Mrs. Roundtree’s place. I think that would bea good idea anyway. I’d also appreciate a report on L.H., Wink, and Hobert. This will be all until the next time.Love, Joe
