Dear Folks,I don’t know what this Army is coming to. All the flying instructors had to go to a meeting of some kind today so those of us that were to have flown this afternoon were given the afternoon off. I felt like I earned my $75 a month as a cadet but I am almost ashamed to start accepting this $235 that they are going to be paying me before long. While I am thinking about pay, they have me $91.15 for coming down here from George so I’ll make out till the first. While I am at it I’ll tell you what else I got. Mr. & Mrs. Castalow sent me a leather case to keep my toilet articles in. So you all can quit worrying about my ratty one now. Aunt Alma, I don’t know her do I, sent me a money order for $5.00, and you know about the stationery from Mrs.Harrison that I am writing on now. I also got the proofs today and am sending them back when I mail this along with the two pair of nylon? hose. The box that I am sending them in is the one that Mrs. Castalow sent my leather case in. It may not be big enough to fit a cake but I am sure that it would fit some candy or cookies very nicely.I have off from 1800 (6:00 P.M.) Sat.until 0530 Monday so I am going somewhere on the first airplane leaving out of hereSat. afternoon. Another boy and I, Jimmy Porter, are going together. If we can’t get one to Ft. Worth, Dallas, or Austin, his home, we’ll take one to most anywhere because he and I together know someone in practically every town in South Texas. As bad as I hate to admit it, we hardly have the chance of aone legged man in a you know what to get one to Ft. Worth and back. We would have to have a plane back if we went to Ft. Worth because no train or bus would get us back here by 0530 Monday. I’ll also have off the third Sunday from now so if I don’t think that I’ll have a chance to go home then, Mama, you can come see me and bring with you whoever can get off at that time, so begin to pack your duds.I should have quit on that last page because I’m out of stuff to say. Oh yes, all those proofs looked all right to me so use your own judgement. I’m going to quit now and write Jack a lone before he goes overseas.Love to all,Joe
