dc.description.transcription10-28-44Dear Folks,How is the Hays clan this fine beautiful Sat. afternoon. I hope everyone is well or at least rapidly approaching that stage. As for me I’m feeling great with all day tomorrow and all day today off. Right nowI am sitting in the Officers Club and listening to the Notre Dame-Illinois, football game. I have. Ill. at 12 points for a dollar with my radio man. It looks like I am going to win right now but the game isn’t over. Now for the news. Next Tuesday, payday,I, Joe Hays, will be the proud possessor of half ownership in a 1931 Buick Coupe with a rumble seat. It is going to cost $140 but it is worth it. Besides that we can sell it for the same thing I paid for it when we leave. I see that I forgot to mention who my partner is. It is my navigator, Tommy Wahl. He can’t drive so we’ll probably use up all our gasoline teaching him how to drink. I know what you are thinking, so I’ll say it don’t worry, I’ll be careful. In case anybody wants to know what I want for Christmas, it’s a fountain pen. This thing I’ve got won’t write. There is going to be a dance tonight with Pinky Tomlin playing. I don’t guess he can stack up with T. Dorsey, JaneGades, or Kay Kyser, but he is supposed to be pretty good. Too bad you aren’there Ruth, I think I could get you a date. That is about all the news except that I wrote my brother-in-law, Dub the other day. Keep me up on the news from him.Love,Joe
