dc.description.transcription9-1-45Dear Folks,I’m going to town in a few minutes and since I may not be back for 2 or 3 days I had better dash you off a line now. It is Sat. afternoon now and if I can get a room at the HiltonI’ll just establish headquarters there and wait for Iris & Cecil. If not I’ll come back and sleep here tonight. I’m awfully confused about this visit but everything should come out in the wash.Right now I am all alone. Jim, my roommate has gone to visit his aunt. They expected me but guess they will have to get along without me this weekend since my sister and my brother-in-law are coming to see me. Everything on the base closed down from noon today until Tuesday since Monday islabor day. So Jim won’t beback until Mon. night. I think they are going to put us to work Tuesday or Wednesday going to ground school and taking P.T. Jim and I haven’t even finished processing yet. It is supposed to take 48 hours but complicationsarose. One day the X ray machine broke down and the next day they started painting the laboratory. No work is done on Sunday and Monday is labor day. (should that be in capitals?) Anyway we will finish Tuesday. Then I am going to start trying to get my flying time in. I need 12 hours to collect $225 back flying pay.Oh yes, I got three letterstoday. One from Amy and two from Mama. I also got Iris’s night letter about 2 days ago. No I didn’t, it was yesterday. Something else. That was Lindsey Hawkins instead of Darcey wasn’t it? If it was Lindsey and he is still there, invite him out for a meal. He doesn’t go to church so don’t ask him. I used to try to make him go and then his wife tried. We both failed. The only vice he has is gambeling and he usually wins so don’t worry about him. The closest he comes to cursing is saying, “for cripes sake.” He absolutely will not smoke or drink on any occasion. He’s a good flyer too. Mama, you can bitch about that train ride I had if you want to. I’m bitching.I’ll tell you all about Iris & Cecil in my next letter.Love,Joe
