dc.description.transcription8-20-43Dear Folks,Just call me Joe (K.P.) Hays.If you think washing heavy pots and pans all day long in boiling water isn’t fun you ought to try it some time. I don’t mean the water was warm and the greasy pots and pans were a little heavy, I mean the water was boiling and the pots were heavy. The water is kept boiling by steam jets in the bottom of the sink. They, the pots & pans are divided by simply pulling them out of the boiling rinse water and exposing them to the air. Swish –the water evaporates in less than a second and they are as dry as a bone. This went on from 4:30 this morning until 7:30 this afternoon. More fun!!! All I could think of was how I used to say “I don’t wanna dry dishes.” Mama send this much of my letter to brother, he has been wanting me to gripe a little bit, well this is it.I came in from K.P. this afternoon and got your cookies, boy did they hit the spot. Don’t send me any more though because I probably will be leaving here soon. Two of the boys who had legitimate reasons for furloughs applied for them today. They were told no, because they would be leaving here this or next week.Mama, I haven’t had my picture made yet because the picture shops in town are so crowded that I don’t have a chance when I wait all night. Since I will probably leave here so soon I will just waituntil my little sweet self arrives at pre-flight.I’m tired and there is nothing new so,Love, Joe
