dc.description.transcription9-26-43Dear Folks,I guess by thistime I have another brother. Wish I could have seen it happen but as it was Uncle Sam couldn’t spare me right then. Mama, from the sound of your last letter, that I got yesterday, you didn’t go up with Ruth. I was counting on you getting a trip out of thedeal besides gaining a son. I won’t have a chance to write them right away so tell them good luck and congratulations for me.Now the news about your son in the service. He has just been separated from one of his teeth. It was an upper left, first one behind my eye tooth. He drilled on it till he got tired then he said he couldn’t save it. I don’t know how it got in such bad shape so quick but I guess it did. It didn’t hurt a bit and I am sure that I won’t miss it. He filled another one night before it so I guess I am fixed up for another year or so. As yet I, nor any of my class has set one foot off of Maxwell Field so I haven’t had a picture made yet. A boy did take some snapshots of the 4H Club today. In case I haven’t mentioned it before, the 4H Club iscomposed of Robert Harmon, the little short boy from San Antonio. The one that owns a ranch, lives in Mexico, and was my roommate at the time you were there. Another member is Harry Harrison, from Dallas. He was also my roommate at the time you were there. He had a med tag for a while, and I think you met his wife. The third member is Carl Hathaway, and the fourth is Joe Hays. As soon as they, the pictures, are developed I’ll send them home.Mama, let me know what you decide about going to work, personallyI think that it is a good idea. This part is to Amy, to be copied and sent to her or saved until she has time to come over and read it. I haven’t thought much about what I want for Christmas but don’t go away, I will. It won’t be handkerchiefs or socks either. I haven’t seen Jerome yet and besides that I probably won’t. A/C’s don’t have much time to go visiting. Its time to go to mess so I’ll quit until sometime in the middle of the week.Lots of love,Joe
