dc.description.transcription6-14-44Dear Folks,It has happened. No, I haven’t washed out, nothing so trivial as that. We were informed the other day that duetotheinstantaneousneedforpilots, mostofuswouldn’tgetfurloughsupongraduation. It may even seem that I put that awfully bluntand to the point but that is just the way that they gave it to us. I intended to tell you yesterday morning when I called but somehow I just couldn’t get around to it. Maybe I could have been more tactful then. You had to know sometime and now you do so that is that. The Colonel that broughtus these glad tidings emphasized that, “most of us wouldn’t get furloughs,” so I am still hoping and praying that I will be among the few that do get them. You hope and pray too, it might help a little bit. The tough part of it is, that we won’t know until the 27th, when we get our orders. I’ll wire or call as soon as I find out so don’t give up hope until you hear, one way or the other. Oh yes, I do still have my 50-3 to pass too.The only other news is that my squadron is going on a 24 hr. bivouac tomorrow. Something that some other fool thought up. We are behind in our flying but we can still take a day off to go sleep on the ground and dig slit trenches.I’ll write again when I am not so bitter.Love,Joe
