dc.description.transcription9-29-44Dear Folks,If you took time to look at my return address you saw that something happened. I am not in Section G-1 anymore but G-2. I have been put back with the new section that just came in. I have a full crew now and will really start to work. I haven’t flown with them yet, in fact I haven’t even met all of them but those that I have met seem to be pretty good boys. I’ll tell you more about them when I get to know them. The pilot, engineer, and I fly in the morning. There will be an instructor pilot along to show the pilot all the ropes about this field and the way they do things here so I’ll find me a nice quite corner and sack up for the morning. I may shoot a couple of landings and fly some instruments but mostly I’ll be relaxing and watching while the pilot works. He’ll show me the next time we go up and after that we are both supposed to know everything new. I would have liked to have stayed in Sect –1 but I’m glad that I didn’t have to since I was so far behind. Five of the boys that I went nearly all the way through Cadets with came down from Lincoln with the new section and the boys that I have been running around with got evicted too so maybe I’ll like Sect. II all right. This boy’s name that I’ve been running around with is Frank Sunderman from Putnam, Texas. He has been without a crew too for the past three weeks so we’ve ben doing the town together. The last couple of nights we’ve gone to the dog races. I won $5.50 the first night and lost $6.50 the second. I believe I could have gotten my dollar back if I could have gone tonight but since I have to get up at 0430 in the morning for flying I decided that I would just let them keep my dollar. So it happened just like that (snap of the fingers) huh? I hope he knows what he is doing and I also hope that he getsto be with her quite a bit between now and Jan. 6 so he can see for sure what he is doing.Brother Finnell wrote me a letter telling about his resignation. I was both surprised and, believe-it-or-not, pleased to hear about it. I’m glad that he quit beforehe killed himself. I hope that he has learned his lesson and will deligate a little bit of the authority and labor to some of the good bretheren when he gets another church. As soon as I have time I am going to compose a letter and tell him this and also how much I have appreciated him and how much he has meant to me every since I can remember.Speaking of remembering, I just remembered that those cookies from Ruth weredelicious and that I am ready for the promised cake. I also just remembered that it is getting late and I have to get up powerful early in the morning so I’ll quit for now and seek my sack.Love to all,Joe
