dc.description.transcription12-4-44Dear Folks,It seems as if I have temporarily misplaced my fountain pen so if you will excuse the pencil I’ll scribble a long overdue letter. The main news item is that I am now blessed with a cold. I went on sick call today and got a whole satchel full of medicine. I’m feeling a lot better now and should be able to fly in the morning as per scheduled. If I don’t feel up to it I’ll tell the Dr. and he will let me off. No. 2 news item is that Don and I went out to see Prof. and Mrs. Reed the other night. It was a pretty nice visit even if I did spend the whole time listening to Mrs. Reed jabber. That is undoubtedly the talkingest woman that was ever born. She didn’t spend more than two seconds at a time on any one subject either. Prof. Reed had a mild stroke about a year ago and has had to quit working. He seems to be doing just fine now however. Mrs. Reed talked like it was his fault he got sick. I almost got mad at her for some of the things she said. I like Mr. Reed very much but I guess you know by now what I think of his wife. News item no. 3 is that I took a cross country to El Paso the other day. We didn’t land but it was fun anyway, I had all of the crew stand at attention while I sang “The Eyes of Texas.”Mama, I thought I had told you about my shirt but I guess not. Any how it fits fine and is really a nice shirt. The enclosed money order is to help defray the expenses. The picture is from left to right Tommy Wahl, Andy Hazer, me, and Marcia Mead. This was made just before we left the College for Bob’s house to eat Thanksgiving dinner. The bag has a blanket in it that we had covered our legs with at the football game. The napkin and the piece of paper are for Amy to put in my scrapbook if she wants to. I’ll explain what they mean sometime. Oh yes, Ay, and this goes for everyone. There is nothing I can think of I want for Xmas. We are only allowed 200 lbs. overseas and the required G.I. equipment will weigh that much so it Is not very practical that I should have much of anything extra.I’ve got to get up powerful early in the morning so I’ll bring this to a rapid halt and head for the sack. All my love,Joe
