dc.description.transcription | TO: MRS. E.A. HAYS 512 W MULKEY FT WORTH, 4 TEXAS FROM: F/O J.W.HAYS T-64121 SR. 446 SQ 707 A.P.O.558 C/O POST MASTER, N.Y. N.Y.2-7-45Dear Folks,Just call me Joe (O.D.) Hays. If anyone ever tells you that a F/O can’t be Officer of the Day just tell them that they are crazy. I was under that misapprehension too but I was wrong. The job consisted mostly of censoring the enlisted men’s mail. Answering the phone and running errands was part of the job but censoring mail was the most boring and the most work.I got off at noon and went to the post office to make a purchase. They paid me more than I thought so I bought, and sent home in an airmail, two $100 money orders. God only knows when it will get there but when it does let me know so I can throw away my receipts. I still want the money spent like I said. By the way I’m still sweating out my first letter. If something doesn’t happen soon I’m going to start writing myself letters. No one else has any so I’m still not complaining, just anxious.Bed time so good night for now.Love,Joe | |
