dc.description.transcription4-25-45Dear Folks,I guess you still want to hear from me even if I don’t have anything to say. First of allI’ll say that my mail is still coming through beautifully. I got two from Mama today and one each from Iris, in answer to one I wrote her incidentally, and Amy. Had one from Ruth yesterday, and am expecting the one from Papa tomorrow that Mama spoke of today. I couldn’t get along without the monthly report from Papa. That is when I get the inside dope on all the home news. There is a big party going on up at the Officer’s Club tonight but I’m not attending due to a slight headache. We slow timed a new engine on an airplane today and I had a slight head cold. Itsnot good to fly with a cold and I don’t usually do it. The flight surgeons usually watch us pretty close and don’t let things like that happen. If it doesn’t get better pronto I’ll get myself grounded for a couple of days. Now as soon as I tell you what slow timing an engine is I’ll get back to the party, what I started the paragraph about. When a new engine is put on an airplane it has to be broke in gradually, the same as a motor in a car. That is what we were doing today, and that is what slow timing is. Now for the parties. Every Wed. night we have a smoker, in the States they were called Stag Parties but it all adds up to the same. There is always snacks, cheese, potato chips, deviled eggs, spam, etc., and beer, and music of some description. At Tucson we always had some entertainment from the local hot spots but over here we have to settle for some homemade music. Last week it was a couple of hillbillies with a fiddle and a guitar. This week theyhave a pretty good band the boys say, but I will have to take their word for it.Howdy again, I didn’t finish this last night as you can plainly see. They turned the lights out on me but since there is no flying today due to weather I’ll sign off and get this posted this morning. Oh yes, my cold and headache are both gone. There is a baseball starting right now so I gotta go.All my love,Joe
