dc.description.transcription9-4-45Dear Folks,I finally finished processing today. That means I start to P.T tomorrow but ground school doesn’t start until the 13th. Looks like I’ll be in the army the restof my natural life to 6 months. Oh well, it’s a great life if you don’tweaken but who wants to stay strong.Had a swell visit with Iris & Cecil. Was off the whole time they were here because the A.T.C. never doesanything on Sunday and Monday was Labor Day. We were driving around Sunday morning early looking for a place to stay when we happened onto a bit of luck. We pulled up to one Motel and I got out to ask the landlady if she had any vacanciesthen I saw a party of three leaving. They said that they had paid up, $6.00 per day incidentally, until Monday noon but were pulling out. I told them our plight and one of the ladies said that we could have the room. We moved in and when I turned in the key upon leaving I swore to the landlady that we were kinfolks to the people that moved out. So lodging didn’t cost the Coles much in Long Beach.Papa this is to you. Did my allotment check of $117 come to you for the month of Aug.? If it did and you haven’t deposited it send the check to me. If you have already deposited it just hold tight for awhile. The reason I’m asking is, I got full payment today for the month of Aug. with no deduction made. And if they sent the check for $117 that means that I owe the Gov’t money and that isn’t good. Also, if you have a record of each individual deposit you have made for me since July 1st, send them to me too in the right order. I think I got full pay for July plus the $117.00 minus my travel pay from Chicago to Ft. Sam Houston. If you will send me all of the figures maybe I can straighten the finance dept., and myself out on everything. If not they will probably straighten me out one of these days when I am least expecting it. Ruth, Iris, brought my lighter and my shoes. Thanks for both of them especially the lighter it works perfectly. Should I send you my old one so Dub can sell it? Iris intended to give me Tommy’s address but forgot to so before you answer this (ahem), run, don’t walk, over to Mrs. Castelaw’s and ask her what it is. I may go to see her one of these days.Going to a stag party at the club tonight. That about covers everything exceptAll my love,Joe
