March 23, 1944 Dear Lucy, You can't imagine how happy it made me to receive two of your letters last week. Mail is the only things prisoners of war have to look forward to, except snapshots (hint). I have been a prisoner over 13 months and believe me, it's not fun. We have over 350 officers here now and there are another 100 due from Italy any day. There are 41 Texas officers, including 5 from university and 6 from A&M. We still don't know who won the big football game, so our can see how we hurt for news here. We've had quite a bit of snow in the last 2 days and it is really cold. About the only way I can keep warm is to get in my bunk. We have an iron stove n our room but there are always too many officers around it. We are in a fairly nice place but I would prefer Huntsville, Texas a lot more. They certainly have some nice police dogs around here. Sure hope that Mimi and L. Allen are getting along fine. Ask her to send a snapshot of them. I also want one of you because pictures really cheer us up around here. last week, I saw my first movie in over a year. I can now speak fair German, but I sure couldn't understand much of the film. I have been away from home now 2 years, and believe me, I will never leave them again, once I get home. What makes it so hard for all of us is knowing that the war is over as far answer are concerned. I am sure you have your own idea of the life we lead but I can assure you that you are mistaken. I can't write very often but I hope you continue to do so. Don't forget those pictures. Be sweet and stay out of trouble. Also Study. A Little. Always, Amon
