Thorp’s Springs, Texas. May 21st, 81 My dear Addison, Sister has been hurrying me all evening she is afraid she will not get her letter in the mail, but I am almost to tired and lazy to write. I am not feeling very well this week. I have worried and nursed Tiny so much she suffers so much with her mouth, it has been in a dreadful condition, it is getting better now, she is playing some today, the first this week, her fever left her Wednesday night, the Dr. has been coming twice every day, I have not much mail this week, there was a letter come from Galveston, with Post Office order of 10 dollars contributed by two brethren to the Orphan home, there was a letter from a Sister Prather, with a dollar for the same purpose. Jesse turned the money over to brother Rawlins. No one has brought us any wood yet I don’t know what we are to do. The well has something dead in it we can’t drink the water. I have a barrel of rain water that we use. We have had such a nice rain this week, every thing is growing so fast. I will try to work in the garden some as soon as Tiny gets well enough. Addie spends most of his time fishing, don’t catch much either. I would not let him go so often but think maybe he will get something Jesse say the scholars are finding fault with Mr. Thomas he thinks with out any cause, there has not but one paid. Jesse says he is afraid the boys won’t get anything. The Douglases and several others have settled with Randolph. I got my plants last Sunday, they were nearly all dead. I think maybe two or three of them will live. There are so many children around that I will have to stop writing. I don’t hardly know what I have written. We want to hear from you as often as you have time to write. With much love I remain your Affectionate, Sallie.
