Thorp Springs, Texas. July 11th, 78. Our Dear good Papa, Your dear precious letter written last Sunday, came Tuesday evening we were so glad to get it. The children are anxious to go to the office every evening. I can send them to the store for anything I want. Sister went yesterday and got some calico to make brother a dress, he wants a dress to play in. They think that is so funny that I must tell you. Jessie has been puny for several days. derangement of the bowels. Little Carlie has been unwell all week, this spell has lasted him longer than any since you left. I had to get the Dr. to get him some more brandy, he is so much better today, has been playing out in the shade with the children. He goes to the door, very often and hollars for you. I get out of patience with the Dr. he is so careless and forgetful. At Ella’s night before last, he told me he would come yesterday and cut the baby’s gums, he has not come yet. Robby has not been here since I wrote last. The day I went out to Sister Milwees Mother told me to come down there and eat breakfast so I could get out there before it got so hot. I told Robby to go home for breakfast. I think he got mad about it he has never been back since. I am sorry he left that way, but we get along so much better without him. The children have been so good about bringing water. I have always been wakeful, nervous... and could not help feeling afraid, when you were gone, but this time I can go to bed with the windows up and sleep sound. I reckon it is because I did not have confidence in our Heavenly Father’s care over us. I know He will let no harm befall us, when our dear one is laboring so earnestly in the cause of Christ. They are doing nothing at the well this week. Cousin David says he will wall it at the bottom so I can use water out of it he spoke as though he would have to go at something to make money to buy some thing to eat told me to tell you if you were not getting any money for preaching to take old clothes he was needing some. The order you sent did not have the stamp on it and had to be sent back, so I have not got any money yet. Could not pay for my washing this week. Tell us just when you will come, the children ask me every day how many days it will be, they say you have been gone forty years. Papa write to mother if you have time, you always do write to her when you are off. Affectionate, Sallie Mrs. Janette came down yesterday with Tommie.
