Thorp Springs Texas. June 20. Our dear good Pappa, It seems like a month since you left us and it has only been a week today. The babe is much better the last few days. he walks most of the time, and is so good and sweet, the children never tire playing with him. It is just like a new baby to them, yesterday while I was taking a nap they dressed him in some of brother’s pants, I wish you could have seen him he enjoyed it as much as they. I have been very hoarse for several days sick with a cold today. I have been coughing very bad, we have been all alone until today. Dr. P. sent Bobby to stay with us. Sam has been very kind has been bringing us sulpher [sic] water every day. I fear I am going to get out of butter I would take the cows home if I knew Bobby would stay. Sam said he would come and milk if I wanted him to but I did not like to take the cows back. The Dr. and Ran got back day before yesterday. I have not seen any of them. They are working at the well this week, slow though, just putting the windlass up today. Mr. Copland has about twenty schollars [sic]. We got some beef this morning the first since you left. I am very sorry Ned cannot come back. I will send you his letter I know he wants to hear from us. The children were so proud of the things you send them, they knew you did not have much money and were not expecting anything. Brother said he felt just like running all the way to Bonham to kiss you for it. Sister said well papa is so good to send us all these things when he didn’t have hardly a bit of money. You forgot to tell me Dr. Phillips would let us have vegetables. He brought us some corn and beans today. You must excuse this pour attempt to write. Bob and the children have been keeping such a racket (he is very noisy) and the babe is riding my foot or pulling at the table all the time. Give my love to every body and go to see them for me. Try to go out to Cousin Bobs this time. I am sure they ought to appreciate your visit for I dont believe there is many of the women that would stay alone and let their man leave. Ask Dick if she would. The children send love. Affectionately, Sallie Tell Jesse to write.
