dc.description.transcription | At Home Lords day night
March 3, 1878
Dear Brother and Sister:
I fear you will think me a little negligent this time for ‘tis now three weeks or more since I wrote you. Your last written the 23 of Feb. came last night – glad to hear – all well. Am very thankful that I can say the same of our little number to night. Friends generally well. Was down at the graves our dear “little Ones” this evening – in passing through the yard I was forcibly reminded that death is still in the land by a new grave – waiting to receive its victim – this time he took the middle aged – a victim upon whom that dread disease consumption had long preyed - A Mr. Dann lives out at the old William’s place 2 miles South of town.
Preaching to day – tolerably turn out. Had two additions to the 3rd Lords day in last month – one by letter – the other made the good Confession – ‘twas old Dr. Champ Jones – Sallie will remember him – used to be drunk nearly all the time – but of late years has not been drinking – May he prove true to the Cause in which he has enlisted. Our new house is done painted - neatly fenced - Seats are being made – we are now aiming to move down on the third Lord’s day; nothing preventing. We had to raise 500 more which has been done – will say more in regard to the church when we move down. No letters of late. Our cousin is still with us but is mighty blue – think he will go back. Have been very busy since I wrote - have set out over 200 fruit trees will get down sowing oats tomorrow if nothing prevents - sowing 10 acres. Wheat looks firm. Planted pot - bedded Pot. planted peas & ect. turnip seeds peas radishes up. You wrote about onion seed - have none never have had any success with the seed - fail to get them up. Glad the plants reached you all right. Rome Dale came in so they have interrupted me put me clear off the track so I’ll stop this time. All send love. Write when you can.
Your Brother,
