Grand Prarie Texas 1321 Oak Street March 26, 1945 Dear Mr. Carter, On February 26th I mailed to you a letter, enclosing letter from our son Lt. Roy J. Chappell Jr. with a group picture POW at Oflag 64, attached. Your son was in the group. Thinking you would enjoy seeing the picture, also make a copy of it. Now my reason for sending this letter- we value the letter, being the last one we received from him, also the picture, which I'm sure he too treasures, perhaps the letter reached there while you were out of town or has been filed away and notably overlookied. We received the artilce about Col. Drake mailed to us in envelopes, we appreciate the thoughtfulness very much. We have not received any further news from the govt. about our son, now have we heard from him. On MOnday March 12th and 5:15 radio braodcast his mails, as our of two Texas en route to the States. March 21st publication of Dallas Texas Herald, an item fro mOdessa Russia (delayed) said he left there that day march 16th on there reparations ship. We are anxiously awaiting his safe return. We hope you have received information concerning Amon, Jr.Would appreciate it very much our following through on the letter and picture for we surely do not want to have them lost. Sincerely, Mrs. Roy Chappell
