Oct 2, 1943, Dearest Dad, Am getting along fine after my third parcel. Please thank Mr. Gross for the pants and Mr. Buck for the gloves. It was really nice of them. From now on all I need is cigars and food and if possible the parcels from Canada. Have received one of the so far. Be sure the food is well packed; ice-cream cartons are good. Can use sugar, cocoa, baking powder, oatmeal, saccharine, coffee, and so forth. It seems funny that we can receive things in tins cans from everywhere but the USA. Also try making the box a little bigger since a lot of the larger ones come through to other officers. We have received a new officer, LT Col. Yardley, today. He is a parachutist and captured in Italy Sept. 15th. Please get in touch with his mother Mrs. AA Yardley, Route 4 , Dublin, Texas and give her all the information about mail and parcels. He is fine. The winter is just about to start and we expect snow right away. Am really glad we got two army blankets a piece from the Red Cross. I only hope we can keep our building warm. ************** Also hints will help, Do you know where all my friends are, also what happened to LT. Doctor? Don't see how some of them got out alive. I had some pretty close calls myself of the 16th,14th,and the 17th of February. Give everyone my love, including barber shop and servants. Tell Katrine to keep me out of trouble. Will write Jean a card tomorrow. Hope to be home this time next year. All my love, Amon JR
